Trade Secretary Alfredo Pascual said 55 stock keeping units (SKUs) or 25 percent of the 218 SKUs of basic and prime commodities (BNPCs) will see a price adjustment soon.
In a radio interview over the weekend, Pascual said of these, 31 SKUs will raise prices by more than 10 percent;
14 SKUs by 6 to 10 percent and’ 10 SKUs by 1 to 5 percent.
Pascual did not elaborate but noted the Department of Trade and Industry is studying the price hike requests that came just months after the last suggested retail price (SRP) bulletin was published in August.
The SRP bulletin covers 20 BNPCs.
Pascual also said that in his market monitoring in wet markets in Marikina last week, vendors reported supply is sufficient.
Monitoring in some provinces noted temporary shortage due to transportation issues but this was quickly addressed.
Random inspection of weighing scales, through the Timbangan ng Bayan, also yielded compliance to standard weights, Pascual said.
He added supermarkets continue to carry sugar at P70 per kilogram.
Last week, DTI released the price guide on Noche Buena products based on the survey of available goods in the market that include ham, keso de bola, pasta, etc.
