First Gen Corp. said its 414 megawatts (MW) San Gabriel combined cycle natural gas-fired power plant in Batangas has been placed on temporary shutdown after an unexpected line trip on Wednesday.
Specialists from Siemens Power Operations Inc. investigating the condition of the plant’s generator point to electrical fault as the possible cause of the trip.
First Gen is yet to provide a timetable of the resumption of operations of the power plant.
According to data from the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines, the power plant’s unavailability did not affect much of Luzon Grid as peak demand yesterday as of 1 p.m. was at 10,329 MW compared to available supply of 12, 290 MW.
