Shipbuilding, minerals, real estate, electronics, water systems draw interest

Polish companies have expressed keen interest in investing across multiple Philippine industries — from shipbuilding and minerals to real estate, electronics manufacturing, and water systems — following a series of trade missions in Eastern Europe, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) said.

Engagements between both sides from June 30 to July 1 in Gdańsk, Warsaw, and Szczecin, were part of an investment roadshow led by the Philippine Trade and Investment Center (PTIC) in Berlin, the DTI said late Tuesday.

The initiative aimed to deepen commercial ties between the Philippines and Poland and reinforce links with Polish trade authorities and chambers of commerce.

“The mission raised awareness on Philippine investment opportunities while strengthening cooperation with our counterparts in Poland,” Nicanor Bautista, commercial counselor at the Philippine Embassy in Berlin, said.

Among those who joined the dialogue was a medium-sized Polish shipbuilder exploring partnerships with Philippine counterparts to develop inter-island freight vessels.

Another Polish firm is looking to source minerals such as nickel, bauxite, and gold from the Philippines, while a separate group is exploring real estate ventures.

One highlight of the mission was a Polish group planning to invest 60 million euros in a data center integrated with renewable energy and water desalination components in Camarines Norte.

The DTI said the same group is also eyeing similar projects in two additional ecozone sites in the country. The department declined to name the company.

Other firms expressed intentions to explore IT-BPM services and the potential manufacturing of dietary supplements in the Philippines for export to Asean markets.

The final leg of the roadshow was held in Gdańsk, home to the Baltic Container Terminal operated by Filipino-owned International Container Terminal Services Inc. The Baltic port city is seen as a regional hub for logistics and innovation.

“The success of the roadshow underscores the DTI and its overseas posts’ commitment to broadening the Philippines’ economic footprint and cultivating new growth markets in Europe,” the trade office said.
