ePLDT, the information and communications technology subsidiary of PLDT Inc., plans to build another data center in South Luzon with about 100 megawatts (MW) capacity to address the demand of its enterprise clients.

In a press briefing, Victor Genuino, ePLDT and VITRO Inc. president and chief executive officer, expressed optimism in the data center industry.

“Hopefully, we can already get another lot to build our next data center. And if we build, it will be no less than 100 megawatts. That’s how bullish we are on the data center industry,” he said.

The company eyes to invest between $600 million to $1 billion on the new data center, based on the industry average cost per MW of between $8 million to $10 million, although in China it could be as low as $6 million per MW, noted Genuino. “We are now experimenting and trying to figure out new designs that are being used now to build AI (Artificial Intelligence) ready data centers. The data center can now be built in less than one year, nine months to 12 months. We’ve seen a site that was built as quick as six to eight months,” he said.
