PLDT Inc. is optimistic about maintaining its dominance in the home broadband market this year as the company re-accelerates its fi ber expansion and introduces new services.
PLDT Home, the fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) unit of PLDT, said in a statement it outpaced the industry in fiber revenue growth last year, raising prospects for an even better performance this year.
“We are… confident we could do better this year, especially as we usher in the era of hyper-fast Gigabit internet connectivity, introduce innovative products and services as well and vastly improve customers’ experience by fortifying the fiber network and hasten resolution of customer complaints,” said Jeremiah dela Cruz, PLDT head of consumer business home.
PLDT said it led the industry in fiber revenue growth in 2023 with an increase of 9 percent year-on-year, or P4.5 billion to P53 billion. The fiber business accounted for 88 percent of total Home revenues of P60.4 billion, higher by 1 percent or P0.9 billion. Fiber-only earnings accounted for 81 percent of total revenues in 2022.
As of the end of 2023, its fiber subscribers stood at 3.2 million, with net additions of 234,000 subscribers helping it keep the biggest share of the market, PLDT added.
PLDT said FTTH average revenue per unit stood at P1,493 in 2023, up slightly even as Home expanded its network to underserved and unserved markets.
The group is also looking to re-accelerate FTTH footprint expansion, with greenfield barangays as priority sites. It is also deploying XGS-PON, an updated standard for Passive Optical Networks that makes it possible for PLDT Home to offer Gigabit Fiber plans – a service package that allows connectivity of up to 10 gigabits per second.
