Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITx), the country’s first integrated and multimodal transport terminal, expects higher foot traffic as the country continues to reopen the economy.
PITx records show a total of 102,664 passengers utilized the landport last Monday, March 21. This came as a surprise as the terminal only has records of such traffic during holiday season, particularly a few days before Christmas, PITx said.
“Monday has always been the busiest day of the week, but it never really hit even the 100,000 mark, so we’re really surprised with yesterday’s numbers. Nevertheless, the terminal is designed to handle 200,000 passengers daily. Rest assured we’re always prepared for any surge in numbers,” said Jason Salvador, PITx spokesperson.
PITx started the year with a daily weekday average of only 48,555 passengers.
As of March 21, daily average is at 84,323.
PITx, which is operated by MWM Terminals Inc. under a 35-year build-operate-transfer contract, attributes this growth to the lowering of alert levels in various areas, paired with the opening of borders of provinces and localities.
“Add to that the return-to-office policy implemented by businesses. The workforce, as well as travelers, are back on their pre-pandemic routine of commuting and traveling,” said Salvador. – Myla Iglesias
