More than 20 million registrants completed the second step for the registration of the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys), the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) said yesterday.
In a statement, the PSA said a total of 20,724,895 Filipinos had their biometric information captured and demographic information verified at designated registration centers across provinces nationwide as of July 23.
“Reaching 20 million registrations for Step 2 this July means we are on track with our 2021 target of 50 to 70 million Filipinos registered for PhilSys,” Dennis Mapa, PSA undersecretary and national statistician, said.
“Given this pace, we are confident that by the end of the year, this target will be met.
Despite the limitations brought by the pandemic, we are thankful for the unwavering support of Filipinos to PhilSys and their continued excitement to register,” he added.
The PSA said appointment booking for Step 2 Registration through the online Step 1 portal is currently available in 14 out of 17 cities/municipalities in the National Capital Region, and 377 cities/municipalities across 31 provinces nationwide.
“More locations will be added as PSA expands its operations for this step to accommodate more Filipinos. PSA encourages the public to register online for the PhilSys Step 1 Registration as early as possible,” the PSA said.
The third and final step to PhilSys involves the issuance of the PhilSys Number (PSN), a unique, permanent identification number, and a physical identification card called the PhilID.
One of the features of the PhilID is the PhilSys Card Number, the public version of the PSN, which shall be used by a registrant when transacting.
Registrants who have completed Step 2 Registration will be issued a letter to be sent to their given address containing their PSN and PhilID, and are advised to safekeep the aforementioned letter with information regarding their PSN private and confidential. – Angela Celis
