In the wake of clamors for a wage increase, the Employers Confederation of the Philippines (ECOP) said the country has the second to the highest salary in the region, next only to Malaysia.
Sergio Ortiz-Luis, ECOP president, said at the Laging Handa public briefing the average daily wage is a maximum of P570 in the National Capital Region (NCR).
Data from the National Wage Productivity Commission as of August 2022 showed in dollar terms, that is about $10.14, next only to $11.16 in Malaysia.
ECOP has opposed proposals for a legislated wage increase and favors the regional wage setting.
Ortiz-Luis said Senate President Miguel Zubiri should consider consulting other agencies in pushing for a P150 across-the- board wage hike.
He added the government is doing its share in ensuring prices of commodities are still within reach.
