More than 1,000 stakeholders from governments, industry, civil society and academe will convene in Manila in June 2026 for the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) Global Conference, which aims to advance transparency and accountability in the extractive sector and promote best practices in natural resource governance, officials said.

The EITI is a multi-stakeholder organization that promotes the open and accountable management of oil, gas and mineral resources.

It will be the 10th EITI Global Conference, and the first to be held in an EITI-implementing country in Asia.

“Hosting the 2026 EITI Global Conference underscores our dedication to the EITI’s principles and our efforts to put good governance and sustainable resource management at the heart of the extractive industries,” Finance Secretary Ralph Recto said in a statement released by EITI late Friday.

“It reflects the Philippines’ firm resolve to lead by example in promoting transparency, strengthening accountability and ensuring that our natural resources are managed sustainably,” he added.

As countries adopt the EITI standard and multi-stakeholder approach, governments, companies and civil society ensure transparency by publishing related data.

The statement said the agenda of the conference in Manila is expected to focus on the EITI’s strategic priorities, namely advancing anti-corruption efforts, strengthening domestic resource mobilization and informing responsible resource governance policies through the energy transition.

“We are delighted to partner with the Government of the Philippines to host the 2026 EITI Global Conference. At a time of growing demand for critical minerals, the EITI Global Conference will convene global stakeholders to reaffirm the importance of responsible and transparent resource management,” said Helen Clark, EITI board chair and former New Zealand prime minister.

The EITI said since the Philippines joined the initiative in 2013, the country has demonstrated strong leadership in natural resource governance and has used the EITI to promote transparency, accountability and multi-stakeholder engagement, including at the local level.

The event will explore innovations in data use and transparency and address emerging issues in the extractive sector.

“We believe this conference can offer not only ideas but solutions, especially for countries in the global south. The 2023 EITI Standard can be leveraged to fight corruption, improve public policy and support equitable development,” Recto said.
