PH seeks trade, investments from China

The Philippines will participate in three major fairs in China later in the year in a bid to promote increased trade and investments.

Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez In his remarks at the 46th Anniversary of Philippines-China Diplomatic Relations and 20th Filipino-Chinese Friendship Day on Wednesday said the Philippines is the guest country of honor at the China International Fair for Investments & Trade 2021 September 8 to 11 in Xiamen, Fujian Province.

Lopez said the Philippines will also be participating at the upcoming China International Import Expo 2021 in Shanghai this November.

Lopez called on delegates to connect with the Department of Trade and Industry at the China International Fair for Trade in Services 2021) set next quarter.

Lopez said the government opened last month the Philippine Trade and Investment Center\) in Hong Kong which can be the launch pad by investors to enter the mainland China market, specifically through the Greater Bay Area.

Henry Lim Bon Liong, president of the Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. said China is the country’s top trading partner, top export destination, and foremost import supplier.

“The Philippines must not lose out to its Southeast Asian neighbors and other competitors.

China’s growing consumer market would need sources of tropical fruits like bananas, pineapples, young coconut; and other products. After the pandemic, millions of Chinese tourists will resume travelling overseas. Our cooperation in the areas of trade, infrastructure, agriculture, information technology, and anti-pandemic efforts will be of significance on our path toward economic recovery” Lim said.
