THE government is gearing up for JP Morgan’s upcoming review next year which could potentially lead to the Philippine government-issued securities’ inclusion in the global financial giant’s bond index.

“We’re still under the radar. It’s a review and it’s a process of JP Morgan. The review is in the first quarter up to second quarter. And then after that, they will do the another round of consultation with the investors,” National Treasurer Sharon Almanza said on the sidelines of an event in Paranaque City on Monday.

Alamanza said as part of the preparation, the government is addressing issues raised by potential investors on liquidity and withholding tax.

“Right now, we have tax treaties with many countries including the big investors, like (those in the) United States and United Kingdom,” Almanza said.

Last week, the Philippine government met with officials from JP Morgan to look into potential areas of collaboration and initiatives in the Philippine capital market. The Department of Finance (DOF) said the discussions included the progress in the inclusion of the Philippine government-issued securities in the JPMorgan Bond Index.
