PH aims to gain foothold in global HIMS

The Philippines aims to solidify its position as the premier outsourcing destination for healthcare information management services (HIMS), leveraging on its highly skilled and professional workforce, competitive cost structure and adherence to global standards, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) said.

The DTI in a statement on Tuesday said it is spearheading the Philippines’ participation in the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Global Health Conference and Exhibition and the Philippine Healthcare USA Roadshow 2025 in Las Vegas from March 3 to 7.

The DTI aims to solidify the Philippines’ position as a premier provider of HIMS in the US and to expand the sector’s reach into new international markets.

HIMS is a key segment of the information technology-business process management (IT-BPM) industry providing healthcare IT and digital healthcare solutions, clinical support services, revenue cycle management, pharmaceutical benefit management, among others.

The industry generated revenues of $4.2 billion in 2024 and has 190,000 full-time employees to date.

The DTI said in last year’s HIMSS also in Las Vegas, the country generated approximately $53 million in export sales and secured potential investments worth $50 million over three years. 

These engagements have facilitated the expansion of several firms, which are projected to create between 2,000 and 5,000 new jobs for Filipino professionals, it added.

In her presentation at the roadshow on March 3, Joy Alguso, deputy director-general of the Philippine Economic Zone Authority, said the agency registered 32 HIMS companies as of January 2025 with investments of P1.78 billion.
