Listed energy firm PetroEnergy Resources Corp. (PERC) through its subsidiary PetroGreen Energy Corp. (PGEC), has started the construction of its 40 megawatts (MW) Limbauan solar power project in San Pablo, Isabela.

The company said in a statement on Tuesday the project, which is being developed under BKS Green Energy Corp. for P1.9 billion, is set for completion within the year and will be capable of generating as much as 59 gigawatt hours of clean energy annually.

BKS is a subsidiary of Rizal Green Energy Corp., a joint venture between PGEC and Japan’s Taisei Corp.

The project will also power about 33,000 households and avoid up to 31,700 metric tons of carbon dioxide by utilizing a total of 52,640 solar panels.

PERC said the project has two phases. The first phase will have a capacity of 6 MW that will be connected to the Isabela Electric Cooperative II system and the second will have a capacity of 34 MW that will be connected to the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines’ 69 kilovolt Tuguegarao-Cabagan line through a 4.73-kilometer dedicated transmission facility.

“In addition to increasing energy supply, we anticipate employing around 500 to 600 workers at the height of construction, partnering with our host LGUs for our corporate social responsibility and environment protection programs and contributing to over-all economic and social progress of the Cagayan valley region,” said Maria Victoria Olivar, PGEC vice president for business development and commercial operations.

Apart from qualifying for incentives under the second round of the government’s Green Energy Auction, the project also received a certificate of energy project of national significance last November.

Besides the Isabela solar farm, PERC’s other existing power projects are the 32 MW Maibarara geothermal power project in Batangas, 70 MW Tarlac solar power project, 27 MW solar project in Bohol, and 36 MW phase 1 and 13.2 MW phase 2 wind projects in Aklan.
