The Department of Energy has accredited Petron Corp. as an official training institution in the liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) sector.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the company announced that the certification was granted on September 25, making Petron the first oil company to receive this distinction, which aims to uphold industry standards and ensure consumer safety.
Petron added that the DOE accreditation enhances its capability to develop competent LPG professionals by certifying qualified service personnel from its refinery, terminals, haulers, dealers, and retail outlets.
The company noted that the move also aligns with the implementation of the Liquefied Petroleum Gas Industry Regulation Act, which aims to enhance industry standards and impose stricter penalties for violations in the LPG sector.
With this development, all LPG personnel trained by Petron will receive a DOE certificate, which will be submitted to the agency as part of their licensing requirements.
Petron said it has already scheduled LPG training sessions, beginning with dealers and retailers in Ormoc, Leyte.
“We are honored to be recognized as a center of safety and excellence in the LPG sector—an industry we are proud to lead through our trusted flagship brands, Petron Gasul and Fiesta Gas. This certification affirms our unwavering commitment to upholding the highest standards of safety and quality in every aspect of our LPG business,” said Virgilio Centeno, Petron Vice President for Industrial Sales.
Meanwhile, Rino Abad, Director of the DOE-Oil Industry Management Bureau, emphasized the importance of establishing certified training institutions.
“As more LPG personnel undergo proper training from qualified institutions, consumers can be more confident in the quality and reliability of the LPG products they receive. We are proud to have Petron as one of our partners in our ongoing efforts to strengthen the industry and ensure the safe, efficient, and professional delivery of services to the public,” he said.
Based on the latest DOE data, as of the end of June 2024, Petron holds the highest LPG market share at 24.8 percent.
