Flag carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL) is expanding its operations in the Visayas and Mindanao with the launch of a new Cebu–Calbayog route in October this year, along with increased frequencies on seven domestic routes.

PAL will start operating four times weekly every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday from the Cebu to Calbayog route, beginning October 26.

“The launch of our Cebu-Calbayog route is a milestone in our mission to empower regional gateways like Cebu,” PAL express President Rabbi Vincent Ang said in a statement on September 17.

“This new service will provide travelers from Eastern Visayas direct access to Visayas and Mindanao, enhancing connectivity and convenience,” he added. “ We’re investing in Cebu as a strategic hub to help drive tourism and economic growth across the region.”

PAL will add more flights to two of the country’s most sought-after island destinations. Cebu-Siargao and Cebu-Busuanga (Coron) are increasing its flights to thrice daily each.

These expanded services allow travelers to reach these tropical gateways without flying through Manila, making vacations  more convenient.

In addition, PAL said it will will increase flights on several domestic routes, including Cebu to Bacolod from 14 to 18 flights weekly, Cebu to Butuan from 7 to 11, Cebu to Cotabato from 2 to 3, Cebu to Ozamiz from 3 to 4, and Cebu to Tacloban from 11 to 14 flights.

Regionally, PAL operates from Mactan–Cebu International Airport to several key Asian destinations, including Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) in Vietnam, Seoul (Incheon ) in South Korea, and Tokyo (Narita) and Osaka (Kansai)  in Japan.

These routes strengthen Cebu’s role as PAL’s secondary hub outside Manila, providing greater connectivity for travelers in the Visayas and Mindanao to major regional centers for business and leisure.
