P900M biomass plant gets perks

Libertad Power and Energy Corp. has obtained incentives for its P919- million 6 megawatt (MW) biomass plant in Aurora, Zamboanga del Sur.

The Board of Investments (BOI) said the project was registered as a renewable energy developer of biomass resources covered by Special Laws (Renewable Energy) of the 2020 Investment Priorities Plan.

The BOI said the project is slated to be operational by December 2022 and will employ 60 workers.

The project will augment supply of power in Mindanao which will require 12,273 MW and is in keeping with the National Renewable Energy Plan’s target of 823 MW biomass power by 2040.
