Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. (MPTC) has submitted a proposal for a P40-billion expressway project that will connect the Bataan-Cavite Interlink Bridge (BCIB) project to the Cavite-Laguna Expressway (Calax).

Raul Ignacio, Cavitex Infrastructure Corp. (CIC) president and general manager, said the company is in talks with the provincial government of Cavite for its proposal to construct an expressway that will connect Naic, Cavite to Calax in General Trias. CIC is a unit of MPTC.

“We’re in discussion with the provincial government of Cavite on a possible Naic connection to Calax in General Trias. It is 25 kilometers (from) Naic to General Trias,” Ignacio told reporters.

Ignacio said the project will be under a public-private partnership and its construction schedule will depend on the completion of the BCIB.

Last year, the Department of Public Works and Highways secured a $650-million loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to finance the construction of the 32.15-km BCIB project which is slated to start this year.

The loan is part of an earlier ADB approved financing of up to $2.11 billion or about P118.3 billion for the construction of the BCIB, which is poised to become one of the world’s longest marine bridges once completed.

The project has an estimated total cost of P219.31 billion. It is to be co-financed by the ADB, Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank and the Philippine government.
