West zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services Inc. is spending P2.7 billion until 2027 for its non-revenue water (NRW) management program in Manila.
The company said the city has a high water loss rate due to an aging pipe network and rampant illegal connections.
Of the said amount, P2.4 billion will go to pipe replacement projects, P151 millionfor leak repairs and the remaining P190 million for network diagnostics and leak detection, among other activities, Maynilad added.
“ To reduce water losses in this area, we have already replaced 701 kilometers of old pipes since 2007,” said Randolph Estrellado, Maynilad chief operating officer, in a statement.
According to Maynilad, the P2.7 billion allocation for the City of Manila is part of its P16.5- billion NRW management program until 2027 to further reduce water losses in its entire concession area.
