CEBU CITY. – Metro Pacific Tollways Corp.’s unit Cebu Cordova Link Expressway Corp. (CCLEC) plans to infuse about P1 billion to expand the iconic 8.9-kilometer Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX).
CCLEX, considered the tallest and longest bridgeway structure in the country, has officially started operation last April.
Allan Galfon, CCLEC president and general manager, told reporters the company has submitted a proposal to further extend CCLEX with the construction of the Guadalupe ramp which is a little over two kilometers road that leads to the central business district.
“There are proposals that are presented on the table. Cebu City is looking at reviving the Guadalupe ramp exit and entry. If that is realized, more tourists (will be) coming from the island, so that needs to proceed to the southern properties if their intention is directly towards the uptown of Cebu,” Galfon said.
Once completed, the expansion will increase CCLEX daily traffic volume by 20 to 30 percent.
“To make it more feasible in terms of incremental traffic, it should be able to (add) about 20 to 30 percent… 10,000 to 12,000 vehicles,” Galfon said.
Currently, CCLEX has over 12,000 vehicles in traffic volume and around P1.4 million gross revenues daily.
Galfon said traffic volume is targeted to increase to 20,000 vehicles by yearend and 40,000 vehicles in the next two years.
“We are confident in the coming months. Traffic … will grow. Now, a lot of construction are being started in Cordova. We believe this will provide the sustainable volume for traffic to increase. Once you have more construction in Cordova and the island of Mactan, then we would have more motorists coming from Class 2 (vehicles) during the construction,” he said.
To further ease travel and add value to motorists and tourists’ experience in CCLEX, the expressway will be transitioning to full electronic toll collection starting October 1.
