The National Power Corp. (NPC) said more than 1,000 households will benefit from the operations of the 3×50 kilowatts modular diesel generator sets of the Taganak diesel power plant in Tawi Tawi.
NPC said the facility launched last month is located in the farthest island at the southwestern tip of the country.
NPC said Taganak is one of the seven islands in the Turtle Islands group, situated in the Sulu Sea, close to the maritime border of Malaysia.
Taganak is renowned for its beaches and ecological significance as its remote location and relatively undisturbed environment contribute to its status as an important conservation area and nesting site for sea turtles, particularly the endangered green sea and hawksbill turtles.
Tawi Tawi Governor Yshmael Sali said the project is expected “to usher in positive change and progress for the residents of Taganak, enhancing their quality of life and creating new avenues for development.”
