THE Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) energized nine major capital expenditure projects worth P1.97 billion in the second quarter of 2025, the company said on Wednesday.

The completed projects are located in key urban centers in Metro Manila and high-growth areas in Bulacan, Laguna, and Quezon Province to support rising electricity demand, improve service reliability, boost grid efficiency, and strengthen network resilience amid evolving customer requirements and extreme weather conditions, Meralco said in a statement.

It said the nine capex projects from April to June this year included four capacity addition projects worth P1.01 billion. They are providing 459 megavolt-amperes in additional capacity to support the load growth and improve service reliability in Makati, Pasig, Parañaque and Quezon City in Metro Manila, as well as in several municipalities in Laguna and Quezon Province.

“These projects are part of Meralco’s broader network enhancement strategy, ensuring that our infrastructure is future-ready to meet growing energy demand while improving operational flexibility and service reliability,” Froilan Savet, Meralco first vice president and head of networks, said.

Meanwhile, for the period, Meralco also powered five major projects intended to improve its sub-transmission system backbone for a total of 33.1 kilometers and P957 million. They enhanced operational switching flexibility in portions of Quezon City, Caloocan City and Cavite Province.

The company added that these projects are aligned with its ongoing efforts to modernize infrastructure and support the country’s socio-economic growth by ensuring continuous, adequate, and high-quality electricity supply for households, industries, and key public services.

“As demand continues to grow, we will continue to upgrade and expand our facilities and strengthen our distribution network which serves as the backbone of our efforts to support the country’s economic development,” Savet further said.

For the first quarter of the year, Meralco powered three network project updates worth a total of P683.74 million.
