The National Irrigation Administration (NIA) signed a P238.68-million contract with the joint venture of ASC Construction and Concrete Products and Isnag Builders and Development Corp. for the construction of the Marimay earthfill dam in Apayao.
Remaining works of the project include the construction plant, mobilization of construction equipment, demobilization works, diversion and care of river during construction and unwatering foundation, excavation and foundation preparation at dam and spillway areas, dam embankment, reinforcing steel bars and filter drain, among others.
Additional works involve the downgrading of the riverbed, slope protection at the left side of outlet works area and dredging at outlet of existing conduit.
The earthfill dam project is part of the bigger P820- million Marimay small reservoir irrigation project (SRIP) which overall, will involve the construction of main canal and laterals including other related structures with a total length of 26,221 meters, project facilities as well as access and service roads including right-of-way acquisition.
The Marimay SRIP is targeted to be completed within the year and set to benefit 1,200 hectares of agricultural land in the barangays of Allig, Mallih, Balluyan and Sta. Maria and will benefit 326 farmers and their families. – Jed Macapagal
