The National Irrigation Administration (NIA) is set to conduct the groundbreaking and inaugural ceremonies of 72 irrigation projects amounting to P13.73 billion until August.
Bulk of the projects are located in Calabarzon.
The agency said that out of the 72 irrigation projects, two small reservoir irrigation projects were already inaugurated in the last week of May with a total cost of P1.523 billion.
Twenty-three projects are set for inauguration or turnover in June with an aggregate cost of P1.22 billion; 22 projects are scheduled for inauguration in July with a total project cost of P3.6 billion and three projects in August with an aggregate cost of P2.68 billion and; 22 other irrigation projects can also be inaugurated and turned over from June to August with a total project cost of P4.7 billion.
NIA serves as the lead government agency responsible in developing all possible sources of water for irrigation and has been partnering with both private firms and other government offices to fully utilize its facilities for value adding purposes. – Jed Macapagal
