The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) said contingency measures are in place amid the possible effects of the current activity of Taal Volcano in Batangas to transmission facilities.
NGCP said so far, the volcanic activity has not causes any disruptions but assured that among its contingency measures include the activation of an overall command center as well as a South Luzon regional command center while all available quick response teams are on standby for deployment.
The company said transmission services in affected areas remain normal.
It said there are no reported related line outages and line crews are being prepared for mobilization to inspect and conduct cleaning of critical line equipment as necessary, as soon as the situation is deemed safe.
In January 2020, the Luzon grid experienced yellow alert as some power plants’ capacities were affected due to the effects of severe ash fall caused by the activities of the Taal Volcano.
Back then, the ash fall caused transmission line constraints and limited the power generation of some power plants in the region.
