The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines’ (NGCP) Negros-Panay interconnection project is on track to be completed by next month. according to the company’s submarine cable contractor.
In a statement, ZTT Submarine Cable & System said it completed the factory acceptance test and cable load out of 60 kilometers of 230 kilovolt (kV) subsea cable that will be utilized. ZTT won NGCP’s engineering, procurement, commissioning and installation contract for the project,
ZTT will commission the whole cable system from Panay to Negros, including associated accessories such as load prediction systems and other equipment.
The company said ZTT’s factory production and operation have not been affected since the pandemic in 2020 and the recent lockdowns in some parts of China.
It added delivery and project execution is on time and in accordance with the contract schedule.
ZTT said the project will be implemented in three stages: the first one involving the submarine cable component which increases the transfer capacity of the existing corridor between Negros and Panay islands.
The next steps involve the establishment of a 230kV backbone to accommodate the transmission of excess power from Panay and Negros towards the rest of Visayas.
Overall, the project will connect the islands of Cebu, Negros, and Panay with one another, strengthening the overall Philippines power transmission network.
