The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) has approved the proposal of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) to undertake four substation projects worth P5.014 billion.
The regulatory body issued a notice of action on the NGCP proposal on February 12, which was only made public on Friday, February 14.
Of the four projects, the biggest is the 230 kiloVolts (kV) Granada substation worth P1.94 billion, which will address the overloading of power transformers in the Bacolod substation.
ERC said the project must be completed on or before August 31, 2028, providing a new connection point for electricity customers in Negros Occidental to address load curtailment and power interruptions in the region.
The P1.36 billion Sumangga 138kV substation, meanwhile, must be completed by NGCP on March 31, 2028.
This project will resolve the overloading in the existing Ormoc-Baybay 69 kV line in Leyte as well as reduce the load of power transformers in the Ormoc substation. It will also provide contingencies and prevent load curtailment and power interruptions.
ERC also approved the P1.13-billion La Carlota 138 kV substation, which was given until August 31, 2028 to be constructed.
The project will resolve the overloading of the Bacolod-San Enrique 69 kV line as well as enhance the overall reliability of the power supply in Negros Occidental.
NGCP’s P584-million Nagsaag-Tumana 69 kV transmission line project was given only until November 30, 2025 to be completed.
The ERC said the project will provide additional transmission capacity to cater to the growing power demand in eastern Pangasinan and address the overloading of the existing Nagsaag-Umingan 69 kV line by transferring other loads of Pangasinan III Electric Cooperative to the new transmission line.
