The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) is rolling out various steps to ensure unhampered operations during the elections next month.
NGCP said it is set to activate the 24/7 operations of its overall command center from May 8 to 10 as part of preparations to secure power transmission operations and facilities during the elections.
The overall command center is currently activated with personnel on duty for the entire week but only from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. including holidays to monitor grid disturbances and the overall power situation.
NGCP said personnel manning the regional and area control centers, critical substations and the quick response team will be on 24-hour shifts with twice the number of personnel on duty from May 8 to 10.
The company added as early as February, NGCP’s Power Task Force Elections, a special team formed to ensure the security and reliability of the transmission network across the country during the elections, set out with preparatory activities.
Contingency plans put in place in coordination with the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police include clearing operations of overgrown vegetation along critical transmission lines across the country and to approach areas with security concerns.
