Power transmission in the Luzon grid is expected to further improve with the energization of the Pagbilao extra high voltage (EHV) substation in Quezon Province, according to the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP).
NGCP said the P3.6-billion sub station was considered an energy project of national significance as it will accommodate the connection of incoming power plants in the region.
The company said power plants expected to be served by the facility include coal-fired and combined-cycle which can bring in around 1,420 megawatts of total capacity to the grid.
NGCP added the facility will also maximize and optimize the operations of the existing Tayabas 500/230 kilovolt (kV) transformers and the Tayabas 230 kV Substation.
The project also involved the development of the Pagbilao 500 kV substation and the expansion of the Tayabas 500kV substation to accommodate the connection of upgraded facilities to the power grid.
“After undergoing various challenges such as permitting and right-of-way, we are happy to have finally completed and energized our Pagbilao EHV Substation. We remain committed to our mandate of providing stable and reliable transmission services to the country,” the company said, in a statement. – Jed Macapagal
