The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) has completed the P307 million upgrading of the San Jose-Angat 115 kilovolt (kV) transmission line in Bulacan.
NGCP said in a statement on Friday the project is critical since the aged line will not be able to handle the full capacity dispatch of the 246 megawatts Angat hydroelectric power plant. It will also further secure reliability of power transmission services in the Luzon grid.
Prior to the upgrading, the San Jose-Angat Lines 1 and 2 were built in 1967 while another circuit which was composed of wooden poles was built in 1960.
NGCP saidas part of the upgrade, the line was equipped with a new third circuit spanning 18 kilometers last May while a fourth circuit of the same length was completed in April.
The 300 megavolt amperes capacity per circuit of the upgraded line will now provide contingency, enabling the grid to withstand a major system disturbance with minimal or no impact on the system.
The associated 115kV substation was also upgraded with new power circuit breakers to accommodate the capacity of the two new lines connected to the substation.
