THE Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) has approved a capital expenditure implementation project of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) worth P2.34 billion.
The project is expected to boost grid security and support economic growth in Northern Mindanao.
In a notice of resolution released yesterday, the ERC approved for NGCP to pursue the Laguindingan 230 kiloVolt (kV) substation project.
ERC said the project will improve power supply for Misamis Oriental I Electric Cooperative and will support the province’s domestic industrial zone Laguindingan Technopark.
ERC has directed NGCP to complete the project by Jan 31, 2025. Failure to meet the deadline will subject NGCP to administrative penalties, as mandated by applicable laws and regulations.
The regulatory body said the Laguindingan 230 kV substation project will address the overloading in the existing Opol substation, which serves as the main power supply for the Laguindingan area.
It will also address the limitations of the Tagoloan substation where several components require upgrading due to low interrupting capacity.
Earlier this week, the ERC also approved three capital expenditure projects of NGCP worth a total of P38.09 billion.
The three projects — Northern Luzon 230 kV loop project, Bolo-Balaoan 500 kV transmission line and Nabas-Caticlan-Boracay transmission project — are seen to significantly enhance the reliability and stability of the transmission grid in Luzon and Visayas.
