GLOBAL streaming platform Netflix has extended its support to the bill on value-added tax (VAT) for foreign digital service providers.
In a social media post, the Department of Finance (DOF) said Secretary Ralph Recto met with senior officials of Netflix at the DOF office in Manila on August 20 to discuss the proposal which is currently pending enactment.
According to the DOF, Netflix representatives expressed strong support to the measure, emphasizing it would level the playing field between local and international digital service providers.
Recto provided clarifications on the bill and assured Netflix of the government’s commitment to supporting the industry’s growth.
The DOF said Netflix shared their eagerness for the bill’s implementation and committed to collaborating with the government to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.
