NAIA improves OTP for arrivals

New NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC), the operator of Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), has achieved 88 percent on-time performance (OTP) for arriving flights during the recent Undas peak travel period, surpassing the industry standard of about 80 percent.

In a statement on Wednesday, NNIC said this highlights NAIA’s effectiveness in managing incoming aircraft flow, and providing a smooth arrival experience for passengers.

Departure OTP was slightly below standard at 75.5 percent, due to baggage handling processes mainly caused by malfunctions and breakdowns of lower deck loaders of airlines and their ground handlers, NNIC said.

These issues, exacerbated by a lack of available loaders and staffing shortages, have resulted in baggage delays during the recent Undas peak season, it said.

Long immigration queues during peak times further compound the airport’s operational difficulties, it added.

NNIC, which took over the operation of NAIA last September, reported 932,405 passengers and 5,627 flights between October 29 and November 4.

Last year, the Manila International Airport Authority recorded 1.2 million passengers and 8,000 flights, and achieved OTP rating of 84 percent during the 10-day period from October 27 to November 5.
