Manila Water Co. Inc. said the company’s affiliation with port operator International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI) can help it scout for opportunities to further expand its operations in Southeast Asia and the Middle East.
Jocot De Dios, company president and chief executive officer said.
Manila Water became an affiliate of ICTSI when the Razon Group’s Trident Water Co. Holdings acquired a controlling stake in the water concessionaire last year.
De Dios said at the company’s virtual annual stockholders meeting yesterday apart from the two regions, opportunities are also being eyed in Latin America and Africa.
“The immediate plan is to really grow our Southeast Asia business and I suppose we are able to do this because the scope, reach and breadth of the port business of the Razon group enables us to generate very keen insights about the markets that we wish to enter,” De Dios said.
“With boots on the ground so to speak, we are able to generate a lot of feedback immediately about regulatory environment, opportunities, low-hanging fruit and even potential partners. We shall certainly take advantage of this situation and try to expand,” he added.
Overseas, Manila Water has operations in Thailand, Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia and Myanmar.
Manila Water mainly serves customers in Makati, Pasig, Pateros, Marikina, Mandaluyong, San Juan, Taguig, some parts of Quezon City and Manila; and several towns in Rizal province that include Taytay, Teresa, Angono, Antipolo, Baras, Binangonan, Cainta, San Mateo and Rodriguez.
It has partnerships with water districts in Tagum, Davao del Norte; Bulacan; Clark in Pangasinan; Calasiao in Pangasinan; San Jose in Nueva Ecija; Laguna; Boracay in Aklan; Cebu; as well as with property developments through Estate Water.– Jed Macapagal
