The MVP Group plans to construct green certified buildings for its telco and power company as part of its sustainability campaign throughout the group.

After Metro Pacific Tollways South Management Corp.’s (MPT South) headquarters received the Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) gold certification, Manual Pangilinan, MVP Group of companies chairman, said the building of PLDT Inc. and Manila Electric Co. will also be converted into greener headquarters.

“A number of our companies are planning to build either headquarters building. Like PLDT, we will convert these two old buildings in Makati City into a greener campus style headquarters, part of it is to respond to the changing nature of telco headquarters or headquarters in general, and part of it is to participate in the sustainability campaign throughout the group. That is an important step forward in terms of converting physical building headquarters of the telco group,” Pangilinan said.

“Similar initiatives are being undertaken in our power company, in terms of their own building, to conform to the sustainability standard globally,” he added.

Last Friday, MPT South, subsidiary of Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. (MPTC), the toll road development arm of Metro Pacific Investments Corp. (MPIC), was awarded a LEED Gold certification for its P800-million headquarters in Imus, Cavite.

LEED is a globally recognized symbol of excellence in green building. LEED certification ensures electricity cost savings, lower carbon emissions and healthier environments where people live, work, learn, play and worship.

“Attaining a LEED Gold Certification for MPT South Hub is no easy feat, and so for that I would like to extend my congratulations to our MPTC team. It is a testament as to how serious our organization is in integrating sustainability in the way we build and operate our businesses, in hope of safeguarding a resilient and sustainable future for generations to come,” said Pangilinan who is also MPIC chairman and president.

The certification was awarded to MPT South by Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI), USGBC’s unit that administers LEED, from technical review, verification and certification in a virtual ceremony.

MPT South Hub has a biophilic design with a full view of the outside surroundings and natural daylight and ventilation.

The hub consumes at least 40 percent less indoor water with the use of modern water-efficient fixtures and 50 percent less outdoor water through rainwater harvesting.
