The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) said it is working to restore power voltage level in Panay Island after multiple power plants tripped in the area yesterday.
NGCP said that as of 2:19 p.m. yesterday, multiple power plants tripped in Panay Island that isolated the area from the rest of the Visayas grid.
The company said as much as 302 megawatts (MW) was lost to the grid, in addition to 150 MW from planned maintenance shutdown of power plants.
NGCP said as of yesterday afternoon, a total of 452 MW of electricity were unavailable as none of the power plants in Panay Island are generating power.
NGCP said restoration works are ongoing with further details to be provided for the public as soon as they become available.
Panay Island is considered as the sixth largest in the Philippines, comprised of the provinces of Aklan, Antique, Capiz and Iloilo.
The Department of Energy (DOE) said it is closely coordinating with NGCP and all affected distribution utilities and power generation plants.
The DOE said the Energy Regulatory Commission is investigating the cause of the incident.
