Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. (MPTC) unit Cavitex Infrastructure Corp. (CIC) has signed contracts worth P5.09 billion to ramp up the construction of the last remaining segment of the 7.7-kilometer Manila-Cavite Expressway (Cavitex) C5 Link project, including its extension to the Cavite-Laguna Expressway (Calax).
CIC on May 21 signed the two separate contracts, one involving the P3.3-billion deal with D.M. Consunji Inc. (DMCI) to construct the 2-km C5 Link Segment 3B, and the P1.79-billion deal signed with EEI Corp. to build the 1.2-km Cavite-Calax Link or CCLink Segment 4 extension from Cavitex Kawit Toll Plaza to the upcoming Calax Kawit Interchange.
Construction of the two projects will start next month and will be finished by the second half of next year.
“This is a milestone for the Cavitex C5 Link as this marks the construction of the last remaining segment. Soon, motorists will benefit from the entire 7.7-kilometer expressway stretching from Cavitex R1 to C5 Road in Taguig,” Raul Ignacio, CIC president and general manager, said in a statement.
“This collaboration will provide the vital link connecting Cavitex and Calax road network. CIC is committed to ensuring the best road quality for its infrastructure, adhering to the highest standards for the safety of motorists. This project will enhance economic activities in Cavite, Laguna and the National Capital Region,” said Rogelio Singson, MPTC president and chief executive officer.
Operational segments of the Cavitex C5 Link include Segment 3A-1 C5 Link Flyover from C5 Road to Merville and Segment 3A-2 C5 Link Flyover Extension. Construction on Segment 3B and Segment 2 (R1 Interchange) are ongoing.
The Cavitex C5 Link Segment 2 is scheduled to be opened to motorists next month. This will cut travel time to Sucat road from Cavitex (Coastal road) and vice versa by 10 minutes.
Once the entire 7.7-km C5 Link project is completed, it is anticipated to serve over 50,000 vehicles per day, significantly reducing travel times to and from Makati and Taguig from Parañaque City, Las Piñas City and Cavite province, ultimately easing traffic congestion within Metro Manila.
Operational segments of Cavitex span 14 km, from R1 Expressway (formerly Coastal road) up to R1 Extension (Zapote to Kawit).
Previously, MPTC tapped DMCI for the construction of the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) Connector Road Phase 1 project and the Laguna segment of Calax.
