Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. (MPTC) is still keen to pursue the construction of the five-kilometer expressway that will connect the Kawit Interchange of Manila-Cavite Expressway (Cavitex) to Sangley Point, Cavite.
Christopher Lizo, MPTC chief financial officer, said the Cavitex extension project is within the company’s concession and that the schedule of construction will depend on the government’s plan to pursue the Sangley Point International Airport (SPIA) in Cavite.
“It depends on the opening of the Sangley airport. By the time they sign the contract, we can start the construction,” Lizo said.
MPTC, through Cavitex Holdings Inc., submitted to the Toll Regulatory Board the proposal to construct a 5-km spur road that will connect Cavitex to Sangley Airport in 2019.
The project will pass through Kawit to Noveleta, going to Sangley and from Sangley to Tanza, Cavite.
Early this year, the local government of Cavite awarded the original proponent status to SPIA Development Consortium, composed of the Yuchengco Group of Companies, MacroAsia Corp., Cavitex Holdings Inc. and three renowned global firms. for the $10 billion development project of SPIA.
The Cavite government has yet to start the Swiss challenge, which allows other player to challenge the proposal submitted by the original proponent.
Aside from the Cavitex extension, MPTC will also revive two unsolicited proposals with the new administration — the P25.3 billion Cavite-Tagaytay-Batangas Expressway (CTBEX) and the P92 billion North Luzon Expressway (NLEX)-Cavitex port expressway link that will provide an ideal truck route to Manila port area.
CTBEX’s alignment includes the Tagaytay Spur and Tuy Spur, consisting of a two-by-two lane carriageway traversing mostly the rural areas of Silang, Tagaytay, Amadeo, Mendez, Alfonso and Magallanes, all in Cavite, and Nasugbu in Batangas.
The alignment has the following interchanges: Silang, Pook, Aguinaldo, Amadeo, Mendez, Alfonso, Magallanes and Nasugbu.
The proposed NLEX-Cavitex port expressway is a combined elevated and tunnel 15-km expressway from NLEX Segment 10 up to Cavitex which will provide an ideal truck route directly linked to Manila port area.
This project aims to reduce truck traffic within the limited capacity road network and significantly contribute in the decongestion of the metropolis 24 hours a day and further increase commercial activity that will boost economic growth.
MPTC operates NLEX, Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway, Cavitex, Cavite-Laguna Expressway, Cavitex C5 Link Expressway and Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway.
