Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. (MPTC) is anticipating a 10 to 15 percent surge in traffic volume this Holy Week.

MPTC operates the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway , Manila-Cavite Expressway (Cavitex), Cavitex C5 Link and the Cavite-Laguna Expressway (Calax).

J. Luigi Bautista, NLEX Corp. president and general manager, said in a press briefing the current average daily traffic in NLEX of 410,000 vehicles is expected to increase to 460,000 to 470,000 daily during the Holy Week.

This year’s traffic volume is a bit higher than the pre-pandemic level in 2019, although last year’s traffic volume was lower by around 20 to 30 percent compared with 2019 due to the strict travel restrictions, added Bautista.

Cavitex, which has 150,000 daily traffic, also expects the number of vehicles to increase by 10 percent during the Holy Week, said Roberto Bontia, MPT South president and general manager.

Calax, which now has 38,000 daily average traffic, likewise expects a higher traffic volume.
Bontia said the C5 Link with 14,000 daily traffic sees a 3 to 5 percent growth in traffic volume.

MPTC is implementing anew the “Safe Trip Mo Sagot Ko” (SMSK) motorist assistance program from April 8 to April 18, 2022.

SMSK, now on its 13th year, involves the increased deployment of patrol crew, traffic marshals, security teams and toll plaza personnel to ensure safety and give immediate assistance to motorists.
