Ayala Land Hospitality (ALH) recently signed an agreement with Marriott International to bring into the country its Moxy Hotels brand.

Ayala Corporation released the news, noting that the first hotel will be a 260-key establishment in the 21-hectare Circuit Makati. It will be called Moxy Circuit Makati.

The company has yet to provide how much it will be spending for the hotel as of press time.

Moxy Hotels is positioned for the “socially driven, experience-seeking travelers,” ALH said, adding that it will be “perfectly positioned near retail and boutique shops, event grounds, green and active lifestyle spaces, and arts and entertainment venues, making it a premier live-work-play destination.”

“Moxy Circuit Makati will feature contemporary rooms and suites with playful, multi-functional design and all the creature comforts guests need for an effortlessly fun stay. Arrivals are seamless and social, with check-ins at Bar Moxy where guests can pick up their room key and a signature welcome drink. Throughout their stay, guests can look forward to a smooth work-life blend with access to social spaces, a fitness center, swimming pool, meeting rooms, and event venues,” the company said.

The signing follows announcement of plans by ALH to double its room inventory to 8,000 by 2030.

“Our vision remains steadfast: to bring Filipino hospitality to the global stage by crafting experiences that connect guests more deeply with each place and its culture,” said  George Aquino ALH chief executive officer (CEO) and president.

“With Moxy Hotels, we offer travelers a playful and vibrant hotel experience. We’re excited to collaborate with Marriott to create what we believe will set a new benchmark for authentic, dynamic, and imaginative urban destinations,” he added.

The announcement also comes at the heels of what property consultant Colliers said is a rezoning in Makati City that makes hotel development in the area attractive.

Joey Bondoc, Colliers head of research in a briefing Thursday said that a proposed amendment of Makati City’s zoning ordinance is a “game changer,” resulting to establishment of more hotels.

“Because right now, there are certain locations in Makati where you cannot build hotels. There’s certain areas that are specifically allowed for hotel development, but given the rezoning proposal, there will be super blocks wherein you can now build new hotels,” Bondoc said.

“So once that rezoning proposal is approved, and finally, in effect, we might see new, foreign and even local hotel brands being constructed across the Makati CBD (central business district),” he added.

Among the proposed amendments are the the rezoning of single-use areas into mixed-use zones, and a 25 percent increase in the allowable floor area ratio (FAR) for office developments in Salcedo and Legaspi Villages.
