Honda Philippines Inc. (HPI), the motorcycle sales arm of the Japanese auto maker, sees total sales of the entire industry growing to 1.7 million units in 2025 as mobility requirements for two-wheel vehicles increase.
This forecast shows marginal growth of 1 percent from 1.68 million in 2024.
The industry peak in sales was reached in 2019, also at about 1.7 million.
“It will grow to around 1.7 million” this year, Sayaka Arai, HPI president, said on the sidelines of the launch of Honda Marine’s flagship outboard engine B350 V8 for sea vessels in Manila on Wednesday.
Arai said HPI cornered 55 percent market share in 2024 when it sold 928,000 units.
A report from MDPPA (Motorcycle Development Program Participants Association) showed motorcycle sales in 2024 at 1,682,482 units, the highest in the past five years and an increase of 7 percent from 1,577,597 units sold in 2023.
In comparison, motorcycle sales in 2022 and 2021 were 1,564,827 units and 1,435,677 units, respectively.
Prior to the pandemic in 2020, MDPPA’s total sales were around 1.2 million units
The Honda Group, which includes HPI, Honda Cars Philippines Inc. (HCPI) and Honda Marine, has invested P200 million in the development of a 20-hectare parts warehouse and training facility of the former HCPI assembly facility for after-sales support.
The MDPPA report showed in terms of market segmentation, the automatic category continues to dominate, accounting for 64 percent of total sales.
This is followed by the Business Unit (BU) category, which makes up 17 percent, and moped motorcycles with 16.3 percent. The remaining 2.7 percent is split between street bikes and big bikes.
The group did not disclose the numbers nor the sales by brand.
MDPPA is composed of four major Japanese motorcycle manufacturers—Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Yamaha. The fifth and newest member is TVS Philippines.
Alex Cumpas, president of MDPPA, in a statement on February 21 said prospects improved with the upcoming national election, favorable economic conditions and supportive House bills targeting the motorcycle industry.
