MORE Electric and Power Corp. (MORE Power) has signed a tripartite agreement with the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) and the Iloilo City government strengthening its push for renewable energy.

The agreement allows the distribution utility establish a one-stop shop for RE technologies such as net metering and distributed energy resources (DER) which provide consumers with more choices of lowering their energy consumption.

Under net-metering, solar power facility owners can export their excess electricity to the grid in exchange for electricity bill credits that can be in the form of rebates.

DER are small power generation units that can be installed in consumers’ houses in the form of rooftop solar, wind generating units and battery storage, among others.

“One of the obligations under the agreement is to have a one-stop shop where applicants and interested parties can come. Our collaboration with the city government has been active for the past three years, and we warmly welcome the involvement of ERC. Being the first in the Visayas to enter into this agreement showcases our strong support for the government,” said

Roel Castro, MORE Power president and chief executive officer.

Under the agreement, ERC will provide the technical and regulatory expertise in streamlining the documentary submission, installation, payment and permitting processes of the net metering and DER.

The ERC will also support through an information drive to increase awareness on renewable energy among the electricity consumers in Iloilo.

Monalisa Dimalanta, ERC chairperson, said Iloilo is the second pilot local government unit for net metering and greater renewable energy program.

As of June 2023, ERC has issued certificates of compliance to 72 qualified end-user net metering program in Iloilo with a total capacity of 985.37 kilowatts.
