Mitsubishi Motors Corp. has vowed to enhance its local production in the Philippines and remains optimistic over its prospects for the year.
Takao Kato, president and chief executive officer of Mitsubishi Motors in a speech at the launch of the new Mirage G4 over the weekend, said the introduction of the latest model of the locally-produced vehicle signifies the company is committed to the Philippine market.
“We started local production (of the Mirage) in February, 2017. We have created dozens of local job opportunities in our Santa Rosa (Laguna) operations. By introducing the new Mirage G4, Mitsubishi Motors will enhance its local production and commit to the Philippine market furthermore,” Kato said.
Xavier Eyadan, general manager for product planning of Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corp (MMPC), said the pandemic has affected the performance of the Mirage in terms of its target production and sales but did not elaborate.
The Mirage is enrolled in the government’s Comprehensive Automotive Resurgence Strategy, an incentive program for local vehicle manufacturing.
“We are continuously committed to reviving our automotive industry and contributing to the revitalization of the economy,” Eyadan said.
Without disclosing targets, Eyadan said MMPC is optimistic of the prospects of the new Mirage.
“For the past years, we have shown that we’re delivering in this (subcompact sedan) segment . But this year, we can make an impact and be a contender in this segment. We will sell more,” he said.
