Construction of Mindanao’s longest bridge project is halfway done and this is expected to be operational by the end of 2023, according to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

DPWH officials inspected last June 1 the ongoing Panguil Bay Bridge project which is among the 119 infrastructure flagship projects under the Build, Build, Build (BBB) program.

Emil Sadain, DPWH undersecretary and BBB chief implementer, said the project has achieved 51.4 percent completion to date, recovering from the delays in the delivery of equipment and materials in 2020 brought about by the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

When finished, the 3.17-kilometer two-way, two-lane Panguil Bay Bridge, which will link Tangub City in Misamis Occidental with Tubod in Lanao del Norte, will be Mindanao’s longest bridge.

With funding assistance from South Korea, the P7.37-billion project is being implemented by the DPWH Unified Project Management Office operations.

Panguil Bay Bridge will make commuting easier as it will only take seven minutes to travel from Tangub to Tubod compared to one hour and 30 minutes via roll-on roll-off vessels operating from Ozamis to Mucas, or land travel through Panguil Bay road of two up to two and a half hours over a total length of 100 km.
