MGB okays Apex’s P110.5M SDMP

Apex Mining Corp. said the Mines and Geosciences Bureau has approved its Social Development and Management Program (SDMP) fund for its host communities for 2025 worth P110.5 million.

The company said in a statement on Thursday its SDMP will have three focus areas including the development of host and neighboring communities; information, education and communication programs; and development of mining technology and geosciences.

Apex Mining operates the Maco gold mine in Maco, Davao de Oro while its fully owned subsidiary, Itogon-Suyoc Resources, operates two mines in Benguet including the Sangilo mine in Itogon and Suyoc mine in Mankayan.

Luis Sarmiento, Apex Mining president and chief executive officer, saidt development programs under the company’s SDMP were planned and agreed upon with the municipality of Maco and the Mansakas, the indigenous people of Davao de Oro for faster rollout and delivery of  maximum benefits to the host and neighboring communities.

The company added that components of community development include health and medical assistance, educational support, livelihood and infrastructure programs as well as socio-cultural and religious support.

“Our SDMP programs prepare our communities for self-sufficiency and self-reliance once the life of mine ends,” Sarmiento said.
