The Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) through its retail electricity arm, MPower, has renewed its contract with The Peninsula Manila to energize the five-star hotel in Makati City with renewable energy (RE).
The Peninsula Manila’s transition to renewable energy serves as a significant milestone in their 12-year collaboration, MPower said in a statement on Tuesday.
However, the parties did not disclose the terms and the amount of power involved in the deal and the types of RE technology to use.
The Peninsula Manila and the entire chain have embarked on future-proofing operations while supporting a long-term sustainability strategy through the Sustainability Luxury Vision 2030 launched in 2021. Its vision aims “to address operational areas that require immediate attention while bringing positive impact to environment and communities.”
The company said such a strategy also focuses on diminishing natural resources such as energy, water and food; the climate change crisis; and growing social instabilities and inequalities.
“Our partnership serves as a benchmark for responsible business practices and inspires others to pursue a greener world for our future generations,” Kevin Tsang, The Peninsula Manila hotel director, said in a statement.
Redel Domingo, MPower head, said the renewed partnership with the hotel chain is an indication of further possible partnerships.
“Our more than a decade of partnership stands as a testament to shared vision and service excellence,” Domingo said.
At present, customers who can source their electricity from the retail electricity suppliers should have a monthly peak demand of at least 500 kilowatts over the preceding 12 months to be able to choose their own power suppliers and negotiate for reasonable electricity rates.
