The Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) will conduct at least three more competitive selection processes (CSPs) this year for up to 900 megawatts (MW) of electricity.
Jose Ronald Valles, Meralco head of regulatory management, said at the company’s first half results briefing on Monday that part of the CSPs will be done to comply with the Renewable Portfolio Standards (RPS). Under RPS, distribution utilities are mandated to source an agreed portion of their energy supply from eligible RE suppliers to contribute to the growth of the industry in the country.
Valles said based on the power supply procurement plan approved by the Department of Energy, the capacity will be broken down to 200 MW from baseload RE, another 100 MW from baseload RE and 600 MW from conventional baseload power plants.
