Meralco sales volume up 8.7%

SALES volume of the Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) grew 8.7 percent in the first half of the year from the same period in 2023.

Ferdinand Geluz, Meralco senior vice president and chief revenue officer, told reporters in a message consolidated power sales volume reached 26,952 gigawatt hours (GWh) from 24,792 GWh for first half 2023.

Meralco said overall sales volume growth was driven by double digit improvements in residential and commercial segments and the need to use cooling equipment due to warmer temperatures.

“El Nino’s warmer real feel temperature impacts are felt on residential consumption (in the) first half of this year on top of still robust customer growth (close to 200,000 more residential customers compared to last year). Commercial also saw growth on newly energized hotels/retail/leisure and entertainment establishments as well increasing occupancy and patronage of hotels, restaurants, retail, retail estate establishments,” Geluz said.

Meralco is scheduled to announce its first half company results next week.
