The Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) said indications of its electricity sales volume in the first quarter of 2022 showed a 6- percent growth, a turnaround from the 4 percent decline in the same period last year when sales reached 10,473 gigawatt hours (GWh).
Ferdinand Geluz, Meralco first vice president and chief commercial officer, said all sectors experienced growth in power sales.
Geluz said the recovery of the commercial segment was helped by easing of mobility and occupancy restrictions while the industrial segment is being driven also by easing of mobility after the surge in new coronavirus 2019 infections last January alongside back-to-office and hybrid work setups and warmer temperatures.
Geluz said household energizations are driving growth in residential power sales.
Meralco’s sales volume in 2021 grew 6 percent to 46,073 kWh from the previous year’s 43,572 GWh. – Jed Macapagal
