Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) recorded a 3.4- percent increase in power sales volume in the first half of the year driven by residential and commercial customers.
Ferdinand Geluz, Meralco first vice president and chief commercial officer for customer retail services, said in a message to reporters power sales volume for the period stood at 24,458 gigawatt hours (GWh). This volume does not include sales from subsidiaries.
“Residential was driven by hotter temperature and humidity. For commercial, education is now fully face-to-face and the usual drivers like retail and restaurants, hotels. Real estate is also up as BPOs (business process outsourcing) continue to shift to onsite,” Geluz said.
Geluz said Meralco sales reached an all-time high in a single month in June to 4,582 GWh which is a 4 percent increase from June 2022’s 4,405 GWh.
Meralco will announce its first half results by the end of the month.
