Megaworld Corp. yesterday said it has resolved its issues with the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) hours after the tax agency announced its plan to issue a closure order against the company.
“We have already reached out to the concerned BIR regional office, and the matter has been clarified and resolved,” Megaworld said in a statement.
It added it will continue to fully support the government’s revenue programs.
The BIR yesterday released a media advisory it will issue a closure order against Megaworld supposedly scheduled at 7:30 am today, May 18.
A media coverage was requested at Denny’s Uptown Parade, with some BIR officials in attendance, including deputy commissioner Arnel Guballa.
Megaworld issued its statement sometime after news reports of the BIR’s plan broke out.
Following Megaworld’s statement, the BIR issued another advisory the issuance of the closure order set today will not push through.
“The activity tomorrow (May 18) is being held in abeyance until further notice,” the BIR said.
“Representatives from Megaworld Corp. manifested their full cooperation with all the requirements of the BIR,” it added.
Both sides did not disclose the tax issues which resulted in the initial decision of the BIR to issue a closure order. – Angela Celis
